This is a photo of and information about SAMUEL EDWARD CALVIN MCDERMETT and family members from the family book produced in 1984.
Sam McDermett was a Deputy Sheriff and in this capacity he usually carried a gun, One time while he and his son, Lee, were riding in a buggy, a man stepped out in front of them and began shooting. Sam pushed Lee down in the floor board and also began shooting.
Sam traded for a horse and brought it home on a rope. He saddled him up and turned around to the family and said "This horse bucks like Hell". He was mounting the horse and talking at the same time. He didn't quite get set before the horse began bucking and bucked him off. The fall banged up Sam's knee for a while. Lawrence McDermett.
Grandpa (Thomas) McDermett was working on the roof of an out building. While working he fell off and broke his leg. He refused to use a cane to help him while he was recovering, but carried a cane bottomed chair around for support.
Sam's branding iron is said to be in San Antonio at the "Lone Star Brewery" or "Buckhorn Saloon".
In Sam's family picture, Lee looks awfully mad. The reason given for this is that he thought his brother Will had on his suit.
